Should I Join a Gym in Montreal?

While to some joining a gym may be a no-brainer, to others it is a decision that incorporates many factors.

Today’s blog post is going to be an exploration of the pro’s and con’s behind this decision, and why you should choose what is best and most beneficial for you if you want to join a gym in Montreal or else where.


Motivation. Do you ever make promises to yourself that today is the day you will begin working out at home? And then you do all of the things necessary to create a space of no distractions, no opportunity for procrastination, and yet, somehow, you end up only completing half of the workout you set out to do? Well, you’re not the only one! When joining a gym you inevitably motivate yourself to workout. There are no distractions, you are there for one reason only, and let’s be real, you paid for it! You want to get your money’s worth so whether you independently train at the gym facilities, or partake in a group workout class, you are wholly motivated to complete the task you set out to achieve.

Options. We often use the various gym facilities, such as the weights, yoga mats, kettle bells, TRX bands, treadmills, swimming pools and saunas. Not everyone has access to these things at home, so finding a gym that offers what you’re looking for can be incredibly encouraging.

Energy. At time’s we can feel a bit tired after work, or after a long night of socializing, or even after a relaxing weekend, but joining a gym will aid in raising those energy levels. On a few different plateau’s, joining a gym can be beneficial for your energy levels. The setting of a gym with its cool air, louder music and evenĀ  a bit of that competitive environment, can all contribute to increasing your energy. Whatever it may be that ignites energy in you, go along with it, because ultimately it will increase your ability to workout and feel healthy.


People. For some it is not ideal to workout in a packed environment where you may have to wait in line to jump on the treadmill, or sign up early to join a class.

Price. Adding more financial responsibilities to your already expensive and busy life can have a negative impact on your decision whether to join a gym or not. You may catch yourself justifying not joining a gym, by thinking thoughts like “I could just do this at home”, “I don’t know if I’ll actually utilize this membership enough”, and “It is SO expensive!” Make’s sense, none of these factors are incorrect, but do try to think about the other side of this, will you actually workout at home? You don’t think you’ll use the gym pass more than 8 time’s a month? Where do you cap off your finances for your wellbeing?

Environment. Some people just don’t like gyms.


With all of these factors to consider, figuring out whether you have the motivation to workout at home, versus needing a gym environment, or whether you can get past sharing a space with other people or whether you want that community oriented place where people recognize you and see your progress, can all influence your ultimate decision about joining a gym in Montreal or a gym in Ville Lasalle, or a gym in Laval or not.

Whatever your final decision, do try to think about the benefits more than the negatives, because ultimately there is a reason why gym’s are so popular. By creating an environment where we can all work together to achieve our personal goals, gym’s succeed in just that. Sure you can socialize instead of working out, but no one leaves the gym without feeling some sense of accomplishment. offers yet an easier way to make this decision, by taking out the commitment element.
