Creative Ways to Stay Hydrated

Hydration! Hydration! Hydration! Hydration! Hydration! Hydration! Hydration! Hydration! Hydration!
It’s no secret that with winter in full swing, we drink less water and thus tend to be less hydrated, which really is not great for our body. Most individuals believe that hydration means drinking tons of water each day. Yes, hydration does require water, but you can obtain and incorporate this water into your day, in various ways.

  1. FRUITS & VEGETABLES. Pretty straightforward, but here are a few of Mother Earth’s tasty alternatives to glasses of water.
    A. Cucumbers. 96% water. That’s really all you need to know. Especially because you can do so much with them. Slice them in a salad, add them to a drink, or eat them with some fresh hummus.
    B. Celery. 95% water. A little less than the cucumber, but nonetheless a wonderful addition to any salad or accompaniment to a healthy dip. Also a wonderful option for juicing, and packed with vitamin K.
    C. Lettuce. 96% water. Salad really is your best option with this lovely vegetable. But think how hydrated you will become when munching on a salad of lettuce, cucumbers and celery!
    D. Pomegranate. 85% water. Mmmm, so delicious and absolutely beautiful. Eat it fresh as a snack, add to a salad or smoothie.
    E. Grapefruit. 95% water. A wonderful option for those seeking to add some bitterness to their lives, or their palette. Grapefruit is often an acquired taste, but is paired well with less abrasive seasonal fruits and vegetables.*FINDAGYM disclosure* The fruits and vegetables you incorporate into your diet should be seasonal, locally grown and hopefully organic. All three of these factors are important when choosing what you will eat, as they will influence and effect your wellbeing, both physically and mentally.
  2. SOUP. This is perfect for the cool weather we are currently experiencing. Despite what you may think, a large percentage of soup is WATER! You can get creative with your hydrating veggies, add a little less salt, and enjoy this hydrating option for the winter.
  3. TEA. Seems obvious as this is basically infused water, but some tend to forget that flavored water may be more tasty. With tea you have so many different combinations of flavors offered, that you are bound to find something you enjoy. Check the local markets for Fair Trade tea bags or loose tea which you can buy and make in bulk, always having something delicious to sip on.
  4. SMOOTHIES. A simple way to blend everything that tastes wonderful into a liquid, hydrating meal. Add some plant-based milk, such as coconut, flax or nut milk, and it will taste even better, while hydrating you even further!

Findagym is here to help you make healthy choices for your own wellbeing. We care about the environment, and you are part of that environment, so make sure you also care for yourself. Instead of taking down plastic bottles of energy drinks, try a few days of plastic-free consumption. Buy foods in bulk, make your own plant-based milks, make soups from scratch and freeze what you cannot finish. And remember, #dontbegymless.
